sort of, just passed me, said “Feminism is the
sound of one hand clapping.” That was the end of
that. These kind of put-down remarks—I got a few.
More than my share I think.
But, but he was such a delightful fellow. And he
was really, constantly—his mood was always
elevated. I’ve never seen him even in an ordinary
way. I don’t remember him being ordinary at any
level at any time. He always was humorous and
elevated. Sublime and ridiculous. Ridiculous,
because he could be ridiculous. Ridiculous in a
totally charming way, but ridiculous, you know.
